1 out of 5 stars Keep looking!   December 29, 2008

We were very disappointed in this scope. It arrived defective so I can't speak to it's operation, but it is very cheaply made. If we were keeping it, I believe it would be broken within days.

1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing!   December 27, 2008
Professional Photographer & Mom (Georgia)
We bought this microscope for my 8 year old son (from another store). As we unpacked it, I was immediately disappointed to see how poorly it was made. Most of the microscope is made of very cheap plastic. The instructions included (paper on on CD) are absurd. Even the blank "glass" slides included are plastic. We tested the scope on purchased prepared slides as well as some of our own we made with moss, rainwater, etc. and the optics were so poor that we could hardly see any of our specimens, only the low-quality optics. Save your money!

Lucky for us, Santa included a gift receipt, so we are off to find a better scope for our son.

5 out of 5 stars Sturdy and a good mix of extras   October 22, 2008

As a child I asked for a new microscope every year. Unfortunately my parents kept giving me the same cheap plastic scope with a toy scapel and no light to illuminate the stage. When my 10 year old neice wanted one for her birthday, I surfed through quite a few vendors to find this one. It is well made and has a nice array of extras. Short of the more expensive professional scopes, it seems to be the best of the lot Amazon has to offer. My neice loves it and her mother intends to order some of her Christmas gifts from the vendor (CS-sales) who included a catalog with the order. If you like science toys you might want to check out their other Amazon offerings.
